We Have Been Busy!
We are drafting a list of actions we will push Councillors to take to protect our bush, our lake and our community. These actions are reasonable, based on examples from other local Councils, and within Councillor's powers.
Let us know what you think. Are there things we have missed that are important to you? Will you come to a meeting with Councillors to voice your support? We will get some further advice from our helpful lawyer before we send this to Council.
In brief, we are asking for:
A proper assessment of the risks to Mummaga Lake
If there is a significant risk to the Lake then Council should reconsider the development
For the Development Control Plan to be extended to include all of Dalmeny, so that planning takes the whole village into account
For biodiversity offsetting to happen within the land release area: that is, some of the land is protected and managed to 'offset' the clearing
That Council reassess the zoning of the land- adjacent land is zoned C4- environmental living. This seems more appropriate considering it is entirely mature bush
That Council requires Biodiversity Management Plans be made for the threatened species present
Plus traffic management concerns, how emergency evacuation facilities will cope with a big population increase and how clearing the bushland will increase temperatures for all of Dalmeny.
Let us know if you would like to see that full draft submission- we’d love to hear your thoughts!

Anyone can become a member, and joining really helps show that we are a committed, passionate, organised force to be reckoned with.
There is a $3 fee- the bank account details are on the form.
Do it now! Don’t forget!
Fundraising
Please support our Go Fund Me! https://gofund.me/55f0cdf6
We are raising a fund that the organisation can draw on as we continue through this process. We have been lucky enough to engage Jennifer Hughes, of Beatty Hughes and Associates https://beattyhughes.com.au/
She has advised us to try to create a real fighting fund, so that we can take action quickly, should we need to quickly appeal a decision for example, as Council seems determined to progress through the planning process.
The next stages will include exhibiting a draft Development Control Plan for public comment, then the developers will be able to start lodging Development Applications for approval. These will include all kinds of biodiversity and other assessments as required. Council will most likely be the approval body for these.
Call Out for More Volunteers
We really need more hands on deck! There is so much more we could be doing. We are looking for anyone who might be able to:
Help with an information table at local markets to raise awareness of our campaign, sign up members and volunteers. There are still so many locals who aren’t aware of the proposed development!
Help organise and promote a meeting with Councillors so that we can get a big group along to support our case
Write letters to local papers, speak on community radio and spread the word on social media
Help grow our knowledge of the species present in the development area. We’d love to have a spotlighting session one evening for example!
Please email us if you can get onboard!
